Location fee ????

Beware undefined charges!!!

I have rented vehicles from the company since 2013. I was surprised to notice a "Location fee" on the contract when renting from their Randburg office. To my knowledge, a Location fee was only charged at airports as part of the tourism levy and airport surcharges. I was not aware that Randburg was now considered a tourist destination and attracted the respective fees. When questioning this matter with customer service, I was offered this jargon:

Good Day Mr Mallgee

Thank you for addressing your concerns with thrifty Car Rental regarding the Location surcharge fee.

Please be advised that I have discussed your inquiry with senior management. They have advised that we added the Location surcharge fee to the invoices for internal accounting purposes to better allocate our expenses.

My concern is that nobody at Dollar Thrifty can explain what the Location charge is and why we have to pay this charge.!!!

Are we paying for the use of the office location i.e. Office rental fee / Rates and Taxes, Water and Electricity??? The cost of running a business.....how convenient!

No other rental company charges this fee.
