Bad experience

I rented two cars within a short time from Thrifty Car rental OR TAMBO. The first rental went well with no issue

However on the second rental 11days later an additional cost was charged apparently on the checkout of the second car. No reason given. I picked up on this only after I returned the car. When I inquired about this it was ‘apparently’ due to not refuelling the first vehicle (11days prior) no one in those 11days had contacted me to tell me of this excess cost, nor was I informed of this on the checkout of the second vehicle. They had already refunded me my full deposit from the first vehicle. Yet now I was still being charged for it? I showed both the sms and bank statement (time stamped with a copy of my ticket ) of the refuelling cost I had already incurred when I DID refuel the car at the Engine Skystop at OR TAMBO. Thrifty provided (6 days later) a hand written receipt to prove they had refuelled the vehicle. The cost of the receipt was not even the same as the cost I was charged for!! The excuse was there must’ve been bubbles in the tank when I refuelled and therefore I couldn’t refuel the car fully? Or that the attendant didn’t full up the car ‘full full’ (I travel to and from JHB every second month, 2/3 times per month and I rent a car. I have never had issues with that Engine Skystop) They just took the cash out my account!!! No contact nothing

Then on the return of my second vehicle I did not receive my deposit back until 4weeks later! After numerous emails, filing bank disputes etc. Their excuse here was that they had accidentally charged it for the vehicle and didn’t realise it was a deposit. It took me an entire month to get it back and not once did they contact me first. It was me emailing them everyday/second day for that month to get it back

Then further to this I was charged (again with no prewarning/authorisations given -and not taken out of the deposit being held, but rather a direct withdraw from my account) for excess KMs used. I know I went over in KMs but not to the extent I was charged for. I had called in and asked how many KMs I was being charged for. The number of kilometres I had been told on the phone I was over by at R2 per KM was lower then the actual cost charged. I have since written in twice to request the excess KM figure be put down in writing…with no response to both emails.

Bottom line don’t trust this company. Once they have your details they are withdrawing from your account without consent/knowledge or written proof as to why.
