My personal information was used without my knowledge - DLS Legalities has no answers

I received an unsolicited call from DLS Legalities ***) on 11 June 2026 at 14:58. The caller immediately began discussing my debt review status and personal financial information - sensitive details I never authorised them to have or use.

When I asked how they obtained my personal cellphone number, the caller ended the call without explanation. The number they called from (+27 21 ***) does not exist when you call it back — a clear attempt to hide their identity.

I then contacted DLS Legalities directly via the number on their Facebook page. A gentleman answered but was unable to tell me how my personal information came to be in their system. He said he would refer my query to their IT department and that I would receive feedback in 2–3 days. I have received nothing.

This is a direct violation of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). My personal data - including my cellphone number and debt review status - was obtained and used without my knowledge or consent. The use of a non-existent callback number makes this even more suspicious.

I have formally reported this matter to the Information Regulator and the National Credit Regulator.

If you have received a similar call from DLS Legalities and they could not explain how they got your information, please share your experience. This company needs to be held accountable.
