Written surgery approval withdrawn, causing severe emotional distress and financial strain.
Written approval withdrawn—severe emotional and financial impact Discovery approved my breast reduction in writing and provided co-payment details. Relying on that approval, I booked leave from work, secured funds through a loan, forwarded the authorisation to my surgeon and had theatre time provisionally booked. The hospital also received an *** and prompted me to complete pre-admission. Discovery then changed their mind and refused cover. I was told the earlier approval was an automated communication, but it contained specific details that gave me every reason to believe I could proceed. This procedure is potentially life-changing for me. It represents relief from ongoing physical pain and discomfort, improved mobility and the opportunity to exercise more comfortably. I had finally felt hopeful about improving my quality of life. Having that hope raised and then abruptly taken away has caused me severe emotional distress, anxiety and uncer*****y. Preparing psychologically for surgery, arranging finances and planning support for my family takes considerable effort. Being left unsure whether I can proceed, with surgery less than a month away, has been deeply upsetting. My complaint is not simply about receiving a rejection. It concerns the written approval, the decisions I made relying on it and the consequences of its withdrawal. A detailed response has been promised by 19 October. I ask Discovery to urgently reconsider funding and meaningfully address the emotional and financial impact of what has happened.

Ruining people's credit record for no reason
Discovery loaded a default on my credit profile and is refusing to remove it even after the account was settled months ago. I'm being sent from pillar to post with having this removed. The service I got today was terrible and still no resolution with having my query resolved.

Total disrespect for customers
Submitted a claim on my Discovery Medical Aid App on Tuesday, 6 October '26 & received an SMS stating the claim would be processed in 2 to 3 working days with a ref. no. ***. On Wednesday, 14 October '26 submitted a complaint on my Discovery Medical App stating the claim has as yet not been processed - NO RESPONSE TO DATE !!! Escalated the complaint to the KZN office yesterday, Thursday, 15 October '26 - an SMS stated a consultant will be calling me - NO RESPONSE. If Discovery Medical Aid are unable to honour a statement in their SMS of processing a claim within 2 to 3 days, then that statement should be REMOVED & the true fact stated !!

*********** customer service
Got a claim statement from discovery See a claim for R16,000 - that discovery only paid 50% and shows as 50% due by me. Spent 1,5 hours of the phone trying to understand what this is and why it happened. Spoke to 3 people. The last person, Nokwazi said, I'll put you on hold as I need to investigate. She then put the phone down on me and didn't call back, Please can someone who is qualified and knows how to make sense of customers queries call me urgently! Claims and authorizations department cannot help!

Poor service and any excuse to not refund a person after you have not agreed to sign up!
I received a call from discovery vitality sales department, they advised that they were running a promotion and that the vitality would be free for 3 months and thereafter only pay, i advised the agent around July/august that i was not interested and that i was not financially able to afford anything else right now, he then went on explaining that we could keep the 3 months free running and i would be contacted again afterwards, after once again i said that i am not interested, after a while i noticed that i was starting to get vitality emails but thought it was just for adverti*****t purposes, i did not receive any documents to sign or where i agreed to signing up for the vitality. The end of October i noticed receiving less on my salary and noticed that the vitality was deducted, i was not happy and gave the medical aid a call. After being sent from pillar to post the whole time and being kept on hold each time for no less than 5 minutes, i was told that there would be an investigation and that they would look into it, i was advised it would take between 5 to 7 working days, it has now already been 10 working days and there is still no feedback. I demanded a refund as i did not agree to sign up for the vitality, yet i was still deducted. i am absolutely disappointed in the medical aid and not use to this type of service
