Yet Another Discoverycard Stuffup

Discoverycard made an almightly stuff-up last month when instead of taking statement balances by direct debit as at the end of March, they took the balance on the statement as at the 22 April. Needless to say, I and many other Discovery customers found that they did not have enough credit in their current accounts to cover the increased amount. I was supposed to pay R16,000 which was in my account but they tried to take R27,000. This, of course, resulted in non-payment as I do not have an overdraft facility, an extra charge of R90 on my current account and very little sympathy from Discovery. They even had the nerve to charge me interest on the supposedly overdue account! So today I thought I would phone them so I can make provision for their whims to find out exactly how much they will take by dd tomorrow - due to a system error they can't tell me and they don't even think that any dd's have been put into the system. This has a knock on effect because I and the rest of their customers will reach their credit limits if the accounts are not paid. How can a bank operate in this way? I've now transferred to R20,000 to my current account simply because I cannot trust them to take the correct balance which I reckon to be about R11,000. This is now becoming an absolute nightmare and nobody at Discovery seems to be prepared to do anything about it or even acknowledge they are in a total mess. The only solution as far as I can see is to get them to cancel the dd's and I will make manual payments on the due date. At least I know what I am doing even if they don't!
