Worse payment SLA
I was shocked recently when I ordered and paid for an item online to find that Discovery Bank has an SLA of 3 business days for processing payment. I noticed that when I buy something in-store and pay with my card the purchase remains pending for days. This is a joke.

09 Jul 2024, 13:37Hi Anton
Thanks for reaching out to us.
Please note that all EFT payments for all banks take up to 3 working days to clear, they can clear quicker however that is the maximum turn around time.
Point of sale purchases for all banks will pend, and merchants are provided with 7 days to bank the amount. This amount will be reserved by the bank for the merchant, should the merchant not bank the amount within 7 working days the amount will be credited back into your account.
Kind regards,
Mpho

10 Jul 2024, 07:13Yes, Mpho all you did is say what I already stated. You do not say why in today's world it takes discovery 3 days to clear payments. And when you say 'up to', this is exactly what discovery does. Not before the time but EOB on the 3rd day. Oh, and I have other bank accounts and NOBODY EVER took 3 days to clear a CC payment for an online transaction. NEVER! While they might have a 3-day SLA other banks are instant. With your service, it means that nobody can ever take advantage of online specials, same-day shipping, etc. because by the time you clear a payment..... Also, no other bank ever has pending POS transactions for days. I shop at the same places and it is only the discovery transactions that remain pending for days. So instead of excuses maybe explain WHY and/or do something to improve the service. This is not 1981 where a bakkie needs to take the mag tape to HQ for a recon.

As advised above point of sale, and online purchases will pend however it does not mean that the payment for your purchase was not successful. Should you wish to purchase something, you can as it works in real-time, it's up to the merchant to bank the amount within 7 days. This is for all banks.
When you make your EFT payments, please also take note of the bank's cut off times, and be aware of the times that payments will be processed. Most payments reflect before 3 working days, most delays are on weekends and public holidays.
Kind regards,
Mpho

For the sake of clarity - there is one constant in these two scenarios - The banking institute. Whether transactions are not being processed in real-time is because the vendor does not submit or because a delivery driver on a Kymco scooter is driving around magnetic tapes from 1982 is irrelevant to me. What is relevant to me is the fact that Bank A managed to do it but discovery bank not.
- I am buying an item online that has same-day delivery if ordered before 10 AM. When completing the transaction using Bank A the payment is processed in real time and the item is shipped since the vendor could confirm payment. When completing the transaction using discovery bank the transaction status remains pending for 3 business days and the vendor does not ship the item since payment cannot be verified.
- I do POS transactions using Bank A the transaction is completed before I get back to my car. When I do POS transactions using discovery bank they stay pending for a minimum of 2 days.
