Unnessarily long Financial Invesitigation - Card Application
During my application for a Discovery Credit Card I was asked to send through 3 months payslips OR bank statements. I chose to send the payslips as they require less administration. The payslips were rejected for an unknown reason, following which 3 months bank statements were requested. This was irritating however I sent these through. The card sales department then proceeded to tell me that the income on the statement was inconsistent and that a SARS ITA34 certificate would be needed to approve the application. I am an auditor by trade. Surely if one has a set of payslips as well as the corresponding bank statements, it should be possible to reconcile what the inconsistencies are (i.e. travel claims, bonuses etc and related tax implications) and proceed to track the true consistent cash payments? I sent an email requesting a phone call from a service consultant in an attempt to iron out these issues. The consultant proceeded to tell me that the payslips have been somehow compromised therefore cannot be used. When I asked why this is the case (considering the administration required to obtain an ITA34 certificate) I was told that the credit department was not willing to disclose this information. To me, this is unacceptable reason. At this point I feel like I am being investigated unnecessarily and from an audit perspective I cannot see what would warrant this kind of administration. I do not know why (and would love for Discovery to let me know) I was selected as the subject of a vicious investigation. I am extremely offended and disappointed. I have subsequently cancelled the application and am in the process of finding another medical aid and provident fund.

This query was resolved and I commend Discovery for following up, however it was an unnecessary and time consuming experience that should never have happened, therefore I cannot give them 5 stars
