Unfair banking practice - Discovery iPhone Benefit
My complaint is around the so called Discovery iPhone Benefit!! In January 2022 I activated this "benefit". So on 11/01/2022 I purchased the phone from the iStore, resulting in an amount of R15 000 being taken off my straight facility by Discovery Bank. This is because I did not have a budget facility.
On 13/01/2022, I made an EFT of R15 000 into the Discovery Credit card, settling the full amount owing on the credit card. In February 2022, I was shocked when Discovery Bank debited my straight facility by an amount of about R780. I am not sure what this is for because I do not owe Discovery anything. As I paid for the phone in full. The only expectation I have is to receive the refund. I have called trying to resolve this matter, but no one at the bank is willing to assist. As my attempts to get answers and get my money back from Discovery Bank have not been ignored by Discovery, I will be escalating this matter to the Prudential Authority.
Thank you for reaching out.
So sorry to hear about your experience but I'd love to assist you.
I had a look at your portfolio and can see that the iPhone charge of R15 000.00 was set to your budget facility as it should and can be seen on your statement that was made available on the 7th of February.
The charge of R737.51 is valid and not incorrect as a budget installment is part of the terms and conditions agreed to when the benefit was activated.
I can see the payment made of R14 975.00 on the 13th of January but I cannot find a request for the budget facility to be settled and the benefit cancelled at that time however I can see that the funds were transferred today.
This means your benefit has now been cancelled.
Kind regards
Nicolene

This matter has not been resolved at all. As you state on the email above, I settled the amount for the phone in January, and therefore in essence I do not owe the bank anything.
I did the R 14K payment today because I wanted to make it clear to Discovery Bank that I am not interested in this "benefit" where the only party that benefits is the bank.
This matter will only be resolved when:
- Discovery Bank refunds me my money ie the R737 deducted off my account.
- Discovery Bank refunds me my money ie the R 15 000. Because of the bank's lies I have paid out close R30 000 for a phone that cost R 15 000.
As indicated, this matter has been reported to the Prudential Authority, as Discovery Bank refuses to address this.
