Severe Delay and Poor Communication on Discovery Bank Credit Card Application Leading to Unnecessary Credit Bureau Impact

I submitted a credit card application with Discovery Bank approximately two weeks ago. At the time of application, I was advised that the process would take around 48 hours.

After this period elapsed, my application remained in “In Progress” status. I followed up and was later informed that the application had been referred to the ***** department for verification.

Subsequently, I was advised that the application would need to be cancelled, and that a cancellation request would be submitted by the consultant’s manager in liaison with the ***** team, with an expected turnaround time of approximately 24 hours.

It is now several days after this communication (received on Friday), and there has been no confirmation that the cancellation has been processed, nor any meaningful update on the status of my application. The application still reflects as “In Progress.”

This entire process has now exceeded two weeks, with multiple reassurances given regarding timelines that have not been met. As a result, I am now being placed in a position where I may need to reapply for a credit card, which would result in an additional credit bureau (ITC) inquiry. This is causing unnecessary and avoidable impact on my credit profile due to delays and inefficiencies in processing and communication.

I find this experience extremely disappointing. What should have been a straightforward credit card application has been prolonged unnecessarily, with inconsistent timelines, poor communication, and no clear resolution provided.

I am requesting urgent final confirmation that the application has been cancelled, or alternatively, a clear explanation and timeframe for when this matter will be resolved.

This experience does not reflect the standard of service expected from Discovery Bank.

Hi there,

Thank you for your patience while we look into this for you.

Our ***** team has advised to have been in contact with you regarding your credit card application and the reasons why they could not proceed with it.
As a result, you advised them that you are currently busy with the SAFPS dispute process and will forward the required documents, if obtained.

Once you have these documents, kindly contact the ***** team directly on *** and they will assist you.

Regards,
The Discovery Bank Team
