Racial profiling at its best
Im very disappointed in Discovery Card/Discovery Bank. I have long been a loyal client of DH but feel utterly betrayed by them. First they cancel the Health Wallet, and tell you to not worry as with Discovery Bank coming all these services will be offered back ten fold. Why cancel the Health Wallet when the Bank wont be up and running until next year?
Ok, its frustrating but i can live with it until DB is a go, now we are told that because of the colour of our skin we will not be eligible to reap benefits offered by them? This is a new endeavor by DH hoping to catch a young market, a market that includes the Born Free's, and should offer equal opportunity to the next generation of clients they hope to entice.
Im so very tired of repeatedly getting punished for the sins of my ancestors, sins I was not personally party to. In today's economy people of all colour suffer financially , we all struggle to make ends meet and still we are picked on and not offered the same incentives because we are white? I have cancelled my credit card with DH and would cancel my medical aid if it was not company policy to belong to DH. I'm shocked and horrified that a "new company" can take such a blatant ****** approach to their existing and future clients.
The proposed Discovery Bank BEE share scheme is aligned to the social and regulatory imperatives of transformation in South Africa today. It must be noted that the Financial Services Charter requirements, which apply equally to all financial services companies, include a minimum of 25% black ownership at holding company level, of which at least 10% must be direct ownership and the remaining 15% through indirect ownership. The approach of meeting the 10% direct ownership requirement through client participation in the growth of the company is in line with the principles enshrined in the charter. Further to this, a client-centric scheme represents shared value for early depositors who become equity participants, and for Discovery Bank which seeks to attract loyal customers.
It must also be stressed that we value all of our clients dearly, and as such, we are listening carefully and absorbing all feedback. It is our responsibility and obligation to do so, and we take this very seriously.
I am sure that you appreciate both the social and regulatory imperatives under which we operate, including compliance with the FSC. As already stated, we will consult widely before finalizing the BEE scheme and you can be assured that we will meet the regulatory requirements in a spirit that reflects our commitment to our clients, continued innovation and inclusivity, within our diverse society.
