Pathetic Service & No Feedback

The Future of Banking - Now. That is the fancy slogan that gets splashed across our Television screens. The reality is not a reflection of this slogan. Some background of my gripe with them - Switch your DSTV debit order to Discovery and earn 25% in Discovery Miles - that was the proposition that prompted me to do just that. On 7 January 2026 I received confirmation that my debit order was successfully switched. On the debit order date I realised that there was no debit order in place. Today, several phone calls and reference numbers later, they have still not linked a debit order. Even worse, there is no feedback from Discovery Bank. This is the most pathetic service that I have received from a banking institution. Where is the "Future of Banking - Now", when they cannot get a simple action like linking a debit order right the first time? I used to work in the banking industry back in the eighties and we used to link debit orders in less than 15 minutes.

Hi Bernard,

Please note that Debit Order Switching takes up to 6 weeks. Because some third parties do not allow for us to conduct the switching for them, you would need to follow up during the provided turn-around time to see which debit orders were successful.

The Discovery Bank Team

With respect - that is a cop out reply. If that was indeed your turn around time, why did none of your consultants mention that to me? Secondly, why was there no feedback - as promised by the consultants? I stick by my original comment - these are shocking service levels.

I give up - I have just spent 25 minutes on the phone listening to the most nauseating music, hoping that someone in management picks up the phone. Problem still not sorted out. But alas, why bother with mere mortals like yours truly. I have now re-instated my original debit order. Couldn't be bothered with this lot anymore. Getting close to the point where I am going close this account.
