Pathetic Credit builder.

If I could, I'd not give them even 1 star. I got a Pre approval for a Discovery Bank credit card through clearscore. At the time I just wanted something that will be a credit builder and it seemed they had it. Their rep called me and checked if I qualified. He said I did I had to accept the offer, which I did. I told the rep that I am self employed and earn roughly R40K on average which he said was fine I just need to submit my bank statements, after submitting the bank statements which were reflecting all my income they declined me. They said I had R16K disposable income (Mind you they declined me for a mere R300 credit builder credit card). I left it as is then the rep that called previously called the following day and said let's try applying again and it will approve. I was reluctant because I didn't want another enquirie on my name, he said no it's fine because it will approve this time. He made me open a bank account with discovery bank which I asked are you doing this for increasing your numbers of people with your accounts? Because if you guys decline me again I don't want your bank account. He said no it's just standard to open an account and it will make your application approved. 1 day later I got declined again. Please note my credit score is very good I wanted something like a small credit card to boost it even more but they still declined me despite obviously qualifying. I felt systematic ****** right away. Because if another race of their preferences would apply with the same documents and credit score they would've received the credit card. Even highschool kids for the other race receive these without having any income.

Hi there,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We sincerely apologize for how our sales agent dealt with this situation.

We would like to assure you that our credit team always conducts credit assessments carefully to ensure a fair and non-biased outcome for your credit card application. Credit card applications are also not based on your credit score alone, they are also based on your overall credit history, income vs expense ratio etc.

We do understand if this decision might not be favorable to you.

Kind regards,
The Discovery Bank Team
