Not really a 'bank'

I received several calls over the last 6 months from Discovery Bank asking me to migrate my Discovery credit card to their new 'bank'. As I was happy with my existing Discovery credit card, I ignored the requests. In March 2020 I was called again and told I had to change, as when my existing card expired, I would no longer have a Discovery credit card. I chose the Discovery card originally due to the integration with Vitality and other Discovery services I used. So I accepted the offer and now have a new Discovery credit card. However, after 1 month, I noticed I hadn't received a PDF statement by email, as I used to. I went onto the Discovery website to check and under the credit card menu, there was nothing. Under the banking menu, there was nothing. I e-mailed the usual Discovery credit card e-mail address and received a response I need to contact Discovery Bank. Really? Is it not a Discovery credit card I have? On the website, there is no e-mail address for the bank. I called them and was told by Jason, that they do not offer e-mailed statements. I explained I used the e-mail as a reminder to load the payment by the due date. I again asked for the statement to be mailed to me, as that is how I receive all my card and bank statements. I also did not want to view a 2 page statement on a 5" cell phone screen! No sir, you have to go on the app to get your statement. He said I could call them each month and request a statement. When asked why I can't have it mailed to me automatically, he said that function is not available from Discovery Bank. How can they launch a bank and not have something as simple as e-mailed statements to your customers? It is ludicrous. I asked for the matter to be escalated to a manager. Let's see if I get a call.

Reviewer Update
It is now nearly a month since my call to Discovery Bank and I still have not heard from a manager.
I called again today and was assisted by another consultant. She says there is no record on my history showing anyone had to contact me. Surprise!
The previous format statement used to have "Payment due date" and "Total amount owing" prominently in the top header, making it easy to see what to pay, especially reading on my large PC screen.
After 'reading' the new format statement on my cellphone, I did not realise Discovery Bank had removed the "Total amount owing" from the header. Instead, further down the page there is "Closing balance on". Viewing an A4 statement on a 5" screen is not easy. I mistakenly paid the minimum amount due instead of the total amount, with the result that I now have interest charges.
I would go so far as to say they are deliberately making it difficult for customers to;
1) know when a statement is available, and
2) to see what is due,
purely in order to charge us interest.

Hi Todd

Apologies for the delayed response. We notify all our Bank clients via SMS that their statement is available to download on the Discovery Bank app. Should you wish to view your statement on a larger computer screen, you may download your statement and send it to your computer via email where you are able to view it in a PDF format.
