Harassments Over Account in Arrears After Arrangements Were Made

As much as I love Discovery Bank, it doesn't change the fact that they harass you with calls. A quick explanation. I phoned them to let them know that I haven't been paid a salary in 2 months so I won't be able to currently pay them back on what I owe them in terms of credit. I asked if they can perhaps pause or stop any debits on the credit account until I can pay them, basically like a debit holiday. They said no, they can't do that. Now they keep phoning me like 8 times a day and most of the times it's during very inappropriate times.

Phoning me every single f****** day is not going to change my financial situation. The worst part is, they have notes on the system about my situation, but they continue to call me and ask me for money.

This is harassment on another level. I will continue blocking your calls now, reporting it to Truecaller for being spam, and I will take legal steps, especially within the POPIA, if this harassment continues.

I WILL PAY WHEN I GET A SALARY AGAIN!!!

Again, I love Discovery Bank, and I would love to continue using this bank, but right now, I am in a situation that is out of my control, and harassing me is really putting this bank in a bad spot for me.

Hi there,

We truly appreciate your loyalty to Discovery Bank and the fact that you’ve taken the time to share your experience with us. We understand how stressful and difficult it must be to face financial challenges beyond your control, and we want to acknowledge the frustration you feel with the frequency of our calls.

At Discovery Bank, we unfortunately do not offer payment holidays or pauses on debit orders. As a regulated financial institution, we are required to follow a structured collections process when accounts fall into arrears. This process includes regular contact attempts, which are designed to keep communication open and ensure that we can work with clients to find solutions as soon as circumstances change.

That said, we hear your concerns about the timing and frequency of these calls. While we cannot suspend the collections process, we will do our best to ensure that our engagement with you is respectful, empathetic, and considerate of your situation. Our intention is not to harass you, but to remain available to support you when you are ready to resume payments.

We value your relationship with Discovery Bank and want to continue serving you. Please know that as soon as your salary situation stabilizes, we will work with you to bring your account back on track. In the meantime, if you would prefer alternative communication methods (such as email rather than calls), we encourage you to let us know so we can adjust accordingly within the framework of our obligations.

Thank you again for your feedback, it helps us improve how we engage with clients during difficult times.

Warm regards,
Tyrone

Hi,

How about I let you guys know when I have money, and then we can make payment arrangements, but until then, stop bothering me. You guys phoned me 28 times yesterday, 28 TIMES??? So, can you understand my frustration with your services? I answered 2 of the calls, of which I already explained on the 1st call that I can't pay and that there are notes on the system regarding this. Can you believe that the 2nd call that I answered was unaware of the 1st call? Like, what system do you guys use if your own staff doesn't even know what is going on???

I took screenshots of how you guys harass me with your calls, and I will use this as evidence if you keep bothering me. Calling me every day is not going to change my financial situation, and calling me every hour is also not going to change it unless you guys are offering to pay it for me, then we can arrange something.

So please, be decent humans and service providers, and stop spamming and harassing me with calls. I will let you guys know when I can pay or I will make a payment, but as of now, that's impossible until I get paid.

Thanks.

Hi Marshunt,

Please know that we take your concerns seriously. Unfortunately, the contact frequency is part of an automated collections process, and we are not able to manually adjust or pause this feed on our side. That said, we completely understand how stressful it has been, and we want to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and pressure this has caused, especially given your current financial circumstances.

If you feel that your experience has not been handled with the care and respect you deserve, we can absolutely log a formal complaints case for you. This will allow our dedicated complaints team to review the matter and address your concerns directly.

We truly appreciate your patience and the time you took to explain what you’ve been going through. If there is anything further you would like noted or if you’d like us to proceed with logging the complaint, please let us know, we are here to assist you.

Kind regards,
Tyrone

Hi Tyrone,

Yes please. Log that complaint for me, and please provide me the reference or whatever you can give me, as I will log a formal complaint to the NCR and Ombudsmen regarding the conduct of this bank towards its clients and daily harassment.

I reveived 10+ calls again and for someone who knows how systems work, I am pretty sure this is something that can manually be adjusted so that clients can stop being harassed on a daily bases. Not even my other accounts call me on a daily bases and neither do they do 10+ calls per day.

So I will have this investigated and taken further.

Regards.

Hi,

It doesn't seem like the communication has been updated because I already got over 20+ calls again today. This is getting really annoying.

Hi,

It's fine. I have just sent all the details to the NCR and NFO. You guys harassed me with 204 calls in 2 weeks. According to research, this is misconduct. I followed the correct channels, and you guys just didn't give a ####. I told you, I don't have money because my salary is 2 months behind. Where must I s### the money out to make a payment for arrears?

You are quick to point out that you use multiple channels, like in-app notifications, etc. Why not use email and notifications to notify me instead of spamming me with harassment calls? And I am going to continue blocking calls because you guys phone me litteraly every day to hear the same ####### answer from me. You even have notes on your system to tell you that I am in a financial crisis.

You have no respect for your customers.

I know I am in arrears, and you don't need to remind me on a daily basis because it won't fix or change my financial crisis. I am in a situation that is outside of my control.

As I said. I logged this with the NCR and NFO. Discovery Bank is not above the laws and rules set out by the NCR and NFO.

Regards.
