FICA. No service, and they don't care either.

My Discovery Card was blocked without notice. I must mention that I have had the card and been using it since around August 2016.

On 12 March 2017, I spoke to Nonhlanhla and asked her why I could not access my funds. She informed me that she needed a certified copy of my ID and proof of residence. Although puzzled at this requirement after so many months of using the card, I promptly sent the documents to her.

On 14 March 2017, I received an email from P****lo Moretlo, stating that my documents needed to be certified. My ID had been certified, but not my proof of residence, as this was not initially required.

Upon contacting Discovery to find out why I could still not access my funds on 17 March 2017, Yonela Jonas informed me that my account was blocked due to FICA documents being insufficient. She confirmed that she indeed had my documents, they were certified, and that she would get back to me.(She still has not gotten back to me)

Later on 17 March 2017, I phoned in again and spoke to Katlego Dube, I asked him for call recordings to confirm the requirements. He told me that he would need to speak to his manager to confirm if he could send the recordings.(Note, my account is still blocked, I have sent the required documents on 12 March 2017)

On 20 March 2017 I called again to find out if there had been a resolution, I spoke to Charmaine Mabala. She told me that she had not yet received my documents, and that there was a FICA campaign running from FNB, and that is why my account had been blocked. She further informed me that she could not unblock my account. I asked for her manager. She transferred me to Ummaira Khan, who told me that I should send the documents directly to her, and that she would escalate the matter with FNB. I asked her to get back to me by 13:00 that day, or I would escalate the matter. She agreed. (She only got back to me after 16:30).

Nevertheless I called in at 14:10, and spoke with Duran, asked for Ummaira. He told me that she was unable to take my call.

At this point, 15:40, I was highly frustrated, and phoned FNB directly. Charmaine had informed me that Discovery Card was oporating under FNB's license, hence I would imagined that FNB could give me answers. To my very pleasant surprise, the friendly consultant at FNB was able to assist me right away. I mailed her the same documents, and my Discovery Card was unblocked within 10 minutes. I must also add that I had been on the line with her the the entire time.

My experience with Discovery Card has been one of severe frustration. The previous months of faultless use of the card is totally overshadowed by the feeling of immense incompetence and inconsistent information by the Discovery Card department. I have my family's medical aid with Discovery, and I enjoy great service from the Discovery Health division. I cannot say the same for the Discovery Card division. This seems to be a department that cannot solve your problems, when they are the only ones responsible. I am still very unhappy with the level of service that I received. This has left a lasting impression that the division is UNRELIABLE.
