Failure to cancel credit card

I went to FNB Richards Bay in 2013 to cancel my discovery credit card. I was asked to pay the outstanding amount as well as a cancellation fee. I made the required payment and was informed the card will be cancelled and inactive.

A few months later; I received a statement for card charges and interest for non_payment.

I then contacted the card division to inform them that the card is fully paid and has been cancelled and was also charged and paid a cancellation fee.

The card division consultant informed me that they will follow up and let me know but failed to do so.

I then received another statement and I queried again and I was asked that I pay an additional R48. I filled in the cancellation form that they sent me and paid the fee. I forwarded the receipt and was assured that the credit card will definitely be cancelled this time around.

Two months later; I once again received a statement with outstanding fees which was already paid. This was a cumulative amount.

I once again phoned the card division and was told I need to pay the outstanding amount before the account is closed.

I continue to receive statements with demands for payments.

I am utterly frustrated at this point . Discovery is suppose to be a highly reputable company and this is unacceptable. I warn anyone considering a discovery credit card to please save yourself the trouble and stay away from Discovery.

Someone at Discovery please assist. Surely your records should be in order!

Hello MrsMChetty

Thank you for your comments and for bringing this matter to our attention.

As discussed, a FNB branch is not able to close a Discovery Card account however, we will reverse all the fees and close your Discovery Card account shortly.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Kind Regards

Jaco
