Disgusted on how Credit Card system down issue handled
I am disgusted on how Discovery Bank handled the Credit Card issue yesterday. I spent an hour doing the monthly shopping for my Mom who is out of food and needed medication, just to get to the till and have my card declined on several attempts. How embarrassing. I ran up my phone bill holding on for 15min when call was then dropped and anymore attempts calling dropped call before it even rang. Worse thing was I was far from home and needed petrol, which would have been a huge issue if I had only found out about card issue after filling up petrol , then what? I managed to get petrol with the R100 cash I had (I don't carry cash around and always re**** on my Discovery Bank Card). Of course this R100 didn't even take petrol gauge off reserve, so that was still stressful trying to get home in peak hour traffic with my Son. I did not even have enough petrol to get medication for my Mom (I could have used medical aid for that even if card was not working) & not enough petrol to deliver to her anyway. What is most disgusting on how Discovery handled it with no immediate notification to all clients about the issue so that we would not embarrass ourselves and left stranded without knowing what was going on. I only found there was an issue after doing my own research on down detector and then eventually going on to twitter to see all the complaints and simple automatic apologies. Yet Discovery still could not think of making a full media announcement on it. On top of it all the way home I heard about 10 adds on Discovery Bank, when all I wanted to hear was an announcement of the issue. How is Discovery going to make up for this huge issue and compensate the massive inconvenience. I now need to hope I have enough petrol to get to a petrol station and have to find time in my extremely busy schedule to do shopping for my Mom again, whether online (which is just as time consuming & limited product offer ) or physically at the store. I do not want a generic response.
As advised on your Twitter post, I'm extremely sorry about what happened to you yesterday.
As a bank we never wanted to leave our clients feeling the way you did yesterday.
We're doing everything we can to ensure this never happens again.
Kind regards
Nicolene
