Discovery Miles disappear in thin air

On 27 November we attempted to buy something from Takealot with our Discovery Miles. I received a sms that the transaction has gone through with reference number: ********** 83. The amount was R749. Takealot said that they never received the money. We had to pay again, which we did on the 30th of November. We paid the rest of the miles we had left which was R547 and we added the rest from our Discovery Card. In the meantime the 7490 Discovery Miles that disappeared on the 27th have not returned. Here follows our interaction with Discovery Card: I phoned them on the 28th of November. I spoke to a woman and she said that we should wait 48 hours. After 48 hours nothing changed. My wife phoned them on the 30th of November, she spoke to a man and he said it would take seven working days. After seven working day nothing changed. I phoned them again on the 7th of December. I also spoke to a man and he promised to escalate the query and that the money should be returned on that very day. Nothing changed. My wife phoned again on the 8th. She spoke to a woman who now said that they need five working days to investigate. I took over the conversation and I lost my temper. I insisted on speaking to the team leader and she transferred me to this person. I waited for a minute and when nobody answered I put down the phone. Information form Discovery Card Statements: 1) It is virtually impossible to track the exact transactions of Discovery Miles, since Discovery never provides a balance after each transaction. If one brings the Discovery Card statements received each month into the fray, then one gets the whole picture. 2) According the Discovery Card statement of 14 November we had 8802 Miles on that date. 3) According to the statement for Discovery Miles drawn from the website a further 3263 miles were added on 15 November. This means a total of 12 065 miles. 4) Then there is the Takealot transaction of 30 November of 4575 miles. This means that 7490 should be left over, but there are no miles left. 5) The transaction that was supposed to happen on the 27th (see ref. nr. above) does not reflect. The miles have simply disappeared in thin air. Thank you

Thank you for your comment.

You contacted our call centre on 7 December 2017 regarding Miles that were reserved for an unsuccessful transaction with Takealot on 30 November 2017. This process is currently a manual process that involves contacting Takealot for confirmation of the failed transaction before we can unreserve the Miles. I understand that this can be time consuming and we are currently looking at ways to make it far better going forward. I apologise for the inconvenience that has caused you.

Should you require any further assistance please feel free to contact me directly.

Best Regards

Amanda
