Discovery Card ********* sales practice

For the second time in several months I have been contacted by Discovery regarding their credit card products. A few months ago I was frustrated at my current bank's offering and was keen to move my existing platinum credit card over to Discovery as I am already a Vitality member and could gain extra benefits. I completed the telephonic interview and based on my latest income, proven by tax return, I was offered a platinum card with if I sent through my latest IT34. With this done I then received a mail congratulating me on my successful application, shortly followed by another mail saying please ignore the earlier mail, just sign the attached recaptured quote and I would get my card within a few days. Only when I looked closely did I notice that the quote was now for a lesser card with a lower limit and higher fee structure. I contacted Discovery customer care and complained at this decision, but also the manner in which it was handled, i.e. in a way that I am sure a lot of people would not have noticed and signed up for a different package than what they expected. I received absolutely no response from Discovery. Last week, I was again contacted by Discovery, making the same offer as before. I mentioned my previous experience but went through the same procedure. And exactly the same thing happened - yes, congratulations, you have been provisionally approved, just send your IT34 and sign the attached quote. Congratulations, your card will be arriving soon. Sorry, ignore previous email jut sign the attached recaptured quote and you will get your cards (but this is the different quote at the higher rates and lower limit)!!! This is tantamount to *****, and is at the very least extremely shady practice. By nature I do not trust banks but I had a higher expectation of RMB and Discovery. I am absolutely disgusted at this. Once is perhaps an anomaly. Twice means this is policy and cannot be tolerated. I intend to pursue this this matter with the banking ombudsman, consumer protection bodies indeed anyone who can bring this despicable business practice to an end.

Thank you for your comment.

As per my email to you, your first quote is provisional until supporting documentation is received. Once this is received there may be changes to your quote and this is not to mislead you but we need to recapture your application according to the information on the supporting documents for a final decision on your application.

These measure are placed to protect you as our client and to ensure that we follow the credit lending requirements.

Please feel free to contact me directly should you have any further questions or concerns.

Best Regards

Amanda
