Discovery Card is unprofessional
I would like to complain in the strongest possible terms regarding emails sent out by Discovery Credit Card. We are bombarded by ********* wanting our personal identification details. They use suspicious email addresses and include logos of reputable financial institutions. We are warned by reputable companies NOT to respond to suspicious emails. I received an email from Discovery Credit Card with a VERY suspicious email address ********** requesting a copy of my wife’s ID. It had all the features of a bogus email. I was told by a call centre advisor that ‘kyc’ stood for ‘know your customer’ - how ridiculous, unbefitting and frivolous. This was followed up by a second ’email threat’ from the same email address to suspend my wife’s Credit Card i.e. the secondary card holder on my account. This is EXACTLY what ********* do and say to instill fear to ***** your identity. I took the initiative to phone Discovery Credit Card to ask them to verify the email. Discovery should have phoned me in the first place. This series of emails is HIGHLY IRREGULAR. For FICA purposes hard copies of Identification documents are usually required to be presented in person to a Bank. Discovery Card has acted *******ly and unprofessionally not to mention *********ly. I should take this matter to court but it would be pointless. For Discovery Card to threaten to suspend my wife’s Credit Card via email without a phone call is nothing short of insulting and deplorable. Sincerely and very disappointed.
Thank you for your comments and for bringing this to our attention.
The Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA) requires financial institutions to obtain all additional cardholders’ identification documents for verification and record purposes.
We do understand your concern and appreciate your feedback.
