DISCOVERY BANK: THE BANK THAT OFFERS ZERO PROTECTION AND ZERO SUPPORT

I am SERIOUSLY considering closing and cancelling every single Discovery Bank product I have.

On 2 February 2026—right after payday—I received a call from someone claiming to be from Discovery Bank's ***** team. They said suspicious high-volume transactions were occurring, my card appeared cloned and used in Durban (hundreds of kilometres from my Johannesburg location), and they needed to freeze my account and issue a new card. To “proceed with investigation and reversals,” they sent a standard in-app authorisation notification—the usual push prompt. The caller had intimate knowledge of my account history, personal details, and recent activity (information only Discovery should possess), which convinced me it was genuine. They kept me on the line with questions designed to waste time and stop me from checking the app in real time.

I refused to provide any further details or click links, yet I approved the in-app notification, believing it was routine ***** handling. HOW CAN THESE ********S HAVE ACCESS TO DISCOVERY BANK’S APP PROMPTS?! THESE PROMPTS ARE STANDARD PRACTICE WHEN DEALING WITH DISCOVERY BANK ON A CALL. That approval let the impersonators drain everything in minutes: savings account to zero, current account fully withdrawn, credit card maxed out. No extra alerts, verifications, or blocks from Discovery Bank's systems—despite glaring red flags (geographic mismatch, rapid high-value outflows post-payday). Once I realised what was happening, it was too late. Everything they said sounded legitimate; under normal circumstances, Discovery would contact you for flagged *****. Nothing was picked up or blocked. Their systems failed completely.

Discovery promotes advanced ***** detection—location anomaly flags, velocity checks, real-time monitoring via TRUST alerts, and proactive notifications. None triggered here. The call coincided exactly with the transfers, exposing fundamental weaknesses in monitoring and real-time intervention.

When I finally reached a real agent after hours on hold, the only action was to freeze the accounts—long after the funds had vanished—no provisional credit, no emergency escalation, no investigation updates—just silence. Follow-up calls have been infuriating: staff seem untrained or unwilling to give straight answers. Suggestions like “transfer money from elsewhere to cover bounced debit orders” are insulting when the accounts are locked and empty because of their security failure. Failed debit orders now risk late fees, credit-score damage, and more stress—yet the bank shows total indifference, with no automatic waiver for penalties caused by their gaps.

This is not isolated. The pattern is clear: weak prevention, slow reaction, zero meaningful support. Discovery markets itself as innovative and customer-centric, yet ********s have better data access and execution speed than their ***** team.

I never authorised these transactions, shared OTPs/PINs, or acted negligently—I trusted what appeared to be legitimate bank processes. The in-app authorisation was exploited without layered safeguards, leaving me a victim of inadequate controls.

For anyone with Discovery Bank: consider your exposure. If accounts can be emptied without real involvement, alerts, or recourse, the risk is unacceptable. I trusted them with my finances; they failed catastrophically. Even basic protection (like Post Bank offers) is better. I will be taking this to the National Financial Ombud Scheme.
