Discovery Bank not worth the effort

I have been e member and a fan of Discovery Medical Aid for a long time so I thought adding a Discovery Card will be great. More Vitality points! Cheaper flight tickets! Sadly the experience was terrible. The App is not designed to open an account for self-employed people who do not receive payslips. After many calls, emails, submission of a mountain of documents the account was opened and I received a shiny Discovery credit card. Then discovered that some sort of 'transactional account' was also opened. Subtext: another element to charge fees. In Discovery's 'behavioural banking' premise, the idea is if I exercise a lot, buy only lettuce and broccoli I will get enough 'points' to reduce those fees. I then decided this is not worth it and asked for the card and this other silly account to be closed. This proved to be as difficult as opening the account. Phoned the call centre, received a reference number and one follow-up call. Thereafter nothing. I sent a mail to ask what is the status, only to be told this cannot be resolved with emails. Has to be the call centre. I phone the number provided in the reply email only to be told I need to phone FNB. It has now been 'escalated', that lovely term developed for call centre driven customer service. Cheers Discovery Bank, I will stick to medical aid only thanks.
