Discovery Bank card closed 2022 - yet running up cost and listing on ITC platforms

I closed y discovery bank card with discovery in 2022, and had to pay a huge amount to have it settled for an account I never used. I have been mailing and complaining the last 4 years without any feedback or correction on my ITC listing under clearscore, transunion and experian. The amount they state outstanding is just growing and they are doing absolutely nothing - just a reference number *** given and no response. I would never recommend this bank to anyone - useless and ***********!

Hi there,

I trust that you are well.

Please note that our records show that in the year 2022, you only paid R600 out of the R1.278,80 that was due. The quote/settlement then expired and you advised that you do not yet know when you will pay the remaining amount. An email was then sent to you to advise that the logged account closure case will be closed as it can't be stay active endlessly.

I trust the above is in order.

Kind regards,
Nosisa

Hi Nosisa

According to the Prescription Act 68 of 1969, the standard prescription period for banking fees and similar unsecured debts is three years. Since your last communication in May 2022, I have had no further contact with Discovery Bank regarding this matter. I have:
  • Made no payments towards this debt;
  • Signed no acknowledgements of liability;
  • Entered into no payment arrangements; and
  • Received no summons or formal legal action within the three-year period.
Accordingly, the debt has prescribed as of May 2025, and any continued collection efforts or listings with the credit bureaus are not only ******** but in violation of the National Credit Act and relevant consumer protection legislation. I hereby request the following:
  1. Immediate removal of any negative listing from all credit bureaus (including but not limited to TransUnion, Experian, and Compuscan);
  2. Written confirmation that you have instructed the bureaus to delist the prescribed debt;
  3. Cease and desist from any further attempts to collect on this prescribed debt.
Should this matter not be resolved within 10 business days of receipt of this letter, I will escalate the complaint to the National Credit Regulator and the Credit Ombud, and will consider legal remedies for the reputational and financial harm caused by this ******** listing. Please confirm receipt of this correspondence and your intended course of action.
Regards
Elsabe

Hi Elsabe,

Please advise if you are currently a secondary card holder for a Discovery Bank account?

Good day Elsabe,

I trust you are well.

We have checked our records and after further investigations, we can confirm that your account was closed on 21 July 2022 and the closure confirmation was emailed to you from our product operations team at around 2:25 pm to your Gmail account. We advise that you use the closure confirmation as proof of account closure and dispute the account that you see on Experian using this proof to have it taken down as Discovery Bank no longer recognizes your account as active.

I trust the above is in order.

Kind regards,
Nosisa
