Deeply upset with Discovery Bank.
Deeply upset with Discovery Bank. 1. Under advice from a new reputable broker I opened an account with Discovery Bank on the 10th June 2025. 2. On Wednesday 25th June I receive a sms from DSV couriers saying that my new Discovery card will be delivered and at 1.30pm my card was delivered to me by DSV Road Secure Division. 3. On about Thursday 26th June I activated my card via the Discovery Bank app and I transfered R20 000 into my new Discovery Bank bank account. 4. On Saturday 28th June I receive a sms from Discovery Bank saying basically that I need to update my FICA documents immediately or my vitality benefits will be terminated. 5. On Tuesday 1st July I receive a Final Reminder – in capitals – that say my benefits will be cancelled today being Tuesday 1st July if I don’t update the Fica documents. 6. I click onto the link and it takes me to “Discovery Bank” where I log in but can’t find out how to upload FICA documentation. I tried twice and then gave up as I had appointments to attend to. 7. Around 15h45 on Tuesday 1st July I receive a phone call from the Discovery Bank ***** department saying that they have seen some suspicious activity on my bank account but that this woman I’m speaking to – I didn’t get her name – will assist me in refunding the transactions. She says that there are three amounts that have been deducted by a Gaming company and we go through a process of cancelling these transactions. HOWEVER I discover afterwards that this woman is NOT from Discovery ***** department but a ****mer. She came across extremely professional and helpful, clearly she is good at this. She even tells me that my new bank card will be cancelled and another new bank card will be sent by DSV. I explain that we are leaving early Thursday morning 3rd July to go on holiday and we set up a date for delivery towards the end of August as I’m not going to be using my card whilst away. Then the phone call disconnects and I log back into my Discovery account and all my money has been removed from my bank account leaving me with R70 only. 8. She knew all my details pertaining to my Discovery Bank account, including personal details. That is why I assumed it was a genuine Discovery Bank employee. 9. I immediately try to phone Discovery ***** department but couldn’t get through to them. 10. Sometime later I receive a phone call from Discovery ***** department – how do I know it’s really them? The man on the phone tells me that he can see that money has been removed from my account and that a case will be opened. That this woman’s name is possibly Nadine ? So they KNOW that this is happening and who it is. I honestly didn’t get anyone’s name. 11. I’m a pensioner. I cannot afford to lose R19 930.00 to someone pretending to be the ***** department. Who can you trust these days. 12. I’ve been a Discovery member since approximately 2006 but not banking. 13. I now open a bank account with Discovery Bank and without even using my card, it’s never left my house, it’s been ****med. 14. Maybe Discovery Bank has an internal security problem – has anyone else had this problem?
