Bank charges

I app**** for discovery Bank while I was still working I was getting my salary from it, I lost my job 2022 May from then I was not getting any income and I didn't have the bank app anymore in 2023 when I wanted to use that bank again I found out I'm owing the bank charges that went up to R2000 I contacted discovery Bank and they told me that I was supposed to close the bank whereas no one told me that I'm supposed to close it if there's no money coming in, I provided them with proof that I lost my job asking them to remove the charges from then atleast so I can continue with the bank they didn't want to that instead now it 2025 the charges are sitting at R6000 and they said they can't close the it before I settle the charges and I'm not working haven't been employed from 2022 now I really don't know what to do this is so unfair as the money keeps accumulating and I don't even have an income
