Account Closure Nightmare

I contacted Discovery bank on 19 Dec 2023 to close my account. I was told that I would be sent a settlement letter within 8 working days. This date fell around 4 Jan 2024. I had not received a settlement letter by this date. I followed up twice telephonically, on the 4th and 5th of January.

I finally received a settlement letter on 8 Jan 2024. This amounted to R212,69, with no breakdown attached. I responded to the account closure department email to obtain an understanding of how this was calculated, as the account balance was zero, and have received no response thus far. I phoned the call centre again on 9 Jan, and the agent stated that they had now communicated with the closure team to provide me with a breakdown. She stated I should give this process 24 hours. If I am to wait 24 hours, then the settlement quote will have expired and will have to be regenerated, and the issue will become even more complex.

The agent also stated that the settlement amount is for prorated fees and interest. This is a problem for a few reasons: 1. I was unable to find information relating to the calculation of the settlement quote in the agreements with Discovery Bank. Please show me where I contractually agreed to this? 2. Discovery Bank taking so long to close the account means that I am effectively paying a larger prorated amount. 3. No indication is given to how many days the fees are prorated for. 4. The amount charged makes no sense - with the increased fees charged for Jan being R115, how do we get to R213? The agent stated that the settlement quote is for fees and interest? One month of interest on R115 surely cannot be close to R100?

Why am I expected to pay almost double the monthly banking fee to close an account which has a zero balance since 2 Jan 2024 and has not had a transaction since 20 Nov 2023? Please contact me and help resolve this!
