Absolutely Terrible Experience with Discovery Bank!
Absolutely Terrible Experience with Discovery Bank! I am beyond furious with Discovery Bank. They have the audacity to charge me R100 for returned debit orders. When I called their customer service to understand why, I was met with a dismissive attitude and told that it is their policy and that I could go read it if I had an issue. Unbelievable! This is nothing short of highway *******. Charging customers exorbitant fees for something as minor as a returned debit order is not just *********, it’s outright exploitative. I want to warn everyone out there: stay far away from Discovery Bank. They clearly do not care about their customers. To make matters worse, years ago, ABSA Bank was fined for doing exactly the same thing. You’d think Discovery Bank would learn from such precedents, but no, they’re too busy squeezing every last cent out of their customers. If you value your hard-earned money and want a bank that actually respects you, avoid Discovery Bank at all costs. This experience has left a very bitter taste in my mouth, and I will be switching banks immediately. Save yourself the headache and find a bank that doesn’t treat you like a cash ***.
Thanks for your feedback.
There is a debit order decline fee that will take place if there are insufficient funds in the account. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that there are sufficient funds in your account to carry out payment transactions (such as debit orders, scheduled payments, or debit card purchases). If there is not enough money in your account to honour the transaction, we may decline the payment. You are responsible for any losses you suffer as a result.
I do see one of our Relatiobship Managers from the Complaints team has advised this.
Should you require further assistance, please do reach out to us on ***.
Best regards,
Mpho
