Wheelchair woes

We visited Dis-Chem, Bayside, to purchase a wheelchair for my husband. The one we selected had flat tyres. I was told they came from the factory like this and I would have to take it to a garage to have the tyres pumped up! When I asked to see the Manager - he told me the same story, but did get the assistant to go and find a pump, which turned out to be a broken bicycle pump. Eventually the assistant managed to get the tyres fairly hard. So, my husband then tried the wheelchair out - a necessity as the ones we usually 'hire' from shopping centres are extremely difficult to negotiate. He had not gone very far round the shop when the tyres went flat once again. I was then told there was nothing further they could do. I said that if the tyres had gone flat in 5 minutes, how could I be sure that the tubes weren't faulty. He said if they were I should bring it back and they would take the wheels off and sent them back to the factory!!!!!!! I then complained to Dis-Chem customer care (Dawn) who said she would look into the problem and get back to me. I am still waiting. This morning I again phoned customer care, and the lady said Dawn was on a call and would get back to me within 15 minutes. 10 Minutes later I received a call from Donovan at Dis-Chem Bayside, who said customer care had asked him to contact me. Unbelievably, he then told me the exact same story I had spoken to him about when previously at the store!!!! I told him that it is totally unacceptable that one is expected.to buy a high price item in a non-workable condition, purely because they don't have a pump!!!! He then said he would have to ask his senior management if they could purchase a proper pump. If I wasn't so angry I would have laughed. He said he would get back to me in a day or two.

I have no high expectations of this happening and I think it is really terrible service, particularly in that department. Do senior management not know what is going on in the stores?
