Smile, it's free.

Eventually visited the Dis-chem in Kenilworth Centre yesterday since they opened last week. The store itself is amazing with a working air-conditioner. With 5 items in hand, walked up to the queue which moved quickly along. Instead of being greeted by a smiling face with my items, there, behind the counter sat a cashier who was beyond morbid - she scanned my items "sonder lus" without making eye contact or any positive emotion on her face. For me it felt like I was at Checkers - because we all know - no one smiles there. Asked my friend as we were leaving what her experience with the cashier she stood at was and she had the same experience - like the lights were not on upstairs. Yes, i understand the store is new and the staff are still getting their footing sorted but seriously - smiling and greeting should be a mandatory courtesy. You who are sitting behind the counter is representing the place of business, you are representing Dis-chem which is a brand broadly used by most people, young and old. And you are the last face customers see when leaving the store. First experience shopping at Dis-chem Kenilworth Centre has not been welcoming and would rather go all the way to Blue Route or Canal Walk for better service.
