Poor Customer Service & Attitude

When in Dis-Chen Hillcrest Boulevard in Pretoria today I took an item off the shelf and when I went to the till the price was significantly higher than I saw on the shelf. I asked to speak to the manager and a junior manager came, sloppily dressed with his shirt hanging out and he proceeded to insult me whilst ignoring my complaint.

At the shelf it was indicated to me that the price was supposed to be reflected across multiple columns of the product, but this was not clear to the consumer as there was a price directly above the product I wanted to purchase and the discription on the price matched the description of the product. I requested to speak to the store manager, Martin, who was far more professional in his attitude and approach, and conceded to my argument, but said the only remedy was to place a price under both columns, but that he could not give me the price that was reasonably reflected to the consumer.

Under the consumer protection act, a customer pays the price reflected on the shelf above or below the product. Additionally the bar code of the product should be reflected as the bar code on the shelf. However, the barcode on the shelf was written so small that it was illegible to me. The manager, even after conceding my point, refused to charge me the price that I saw on the shelf.

This level of contempt towards the consumer is unacceptable. The consumer makes the store and with those service attitudes there is a major problem. I can confirm I will never return to that store again! Dis-Chem Head Office needs to address this to safeguard their reputation as I am generally very happy and impressed by Dis-Chen.

So sad to experience this.
