Pharmacist failed to warn me about Ciprofloxacin

<p> Ciprofloxacin is a very dangerous medication that has caused thousands of people to have serious reactions around the world, including death, brain damage, ruptured tendons and destruction of cartilage. I was prescribed this medication by a pharmacist at Park Meadows Dischem and he did not warn me at all that the drug could cause a very serious reaction. I became extremely sick after taking the drug and I am still dealing with the reaction which includes seizures, muscle spasms and twitches and damage to my muscles, joints and tendons. I would think that a drug like this, which is a chemo therapy drug (not a normal antibiotic), could at least be handed over with a verbal warning about the negative effects. In the US, the FDA has said that the drug should never be a given as a first choice, but only as a last resort, for people who may die without it. I feel that a good pharmacist should make an effort to be up-to-date with such warnings and should make an effort to warn people when handing over the drug. I am disappointed that the pharmacist did not make this type of effort and I feel that they should add a warning to their system at Dischem and at all pharmacies in South Africa so that the next time someone comes to fill out a prescription for Ciprofloxacin, the pharmacist is aware of the dangers. This drug is so bad that their is a support group on Facebook for people who have had bad reactions to the drug. This group has over 6500 members and these are mostly people from America. This should give an indication that this is not a rare thing to happen and the drug has destroyed thousands of lives around the world. I will also be complaining about the fact that the doctor who prescribed the drug did not make an effort to warn me about the potential negative effects which have had a severe impact on my life since taking the drug. At the very least, I would like Dischem to reassure me that in future, the pharmacists will warn people before handing over this medication.</p>
