No testers available

Today I was trying to purchase a beauty product, after I was offered no assistance I opened a product to see the colour of the foundation. To mention no testers were available. An employee approached me and stated ranting because I opened the product and there is a reason apparently that only some products have testers and I needed to pay for the product that I opened. How do they suppose you send money on a product and you can't even test it before buying. Just to be clear I just looked at the colour, I did not apply any product to my skin.
