Mistreated at dischem

I bought a junior syrup for my son and when I got home I found out that the syrup is liking but the cap is still sealed when I went back to the store for an exchange they told me that they can't exchange it for me becouse I might have used it, my question is why would I use it and come back to exchange it for the same thing
