Minimal response from Management at Dischem Gauteng (Woodmead Retail Park)
eMail hereunder with full details sent on Weds 20th Sept/2017: Thereafter Dischem Management phoned me & offered a complimentory R44.95 packet of Face Wipes for me to collect. There has been no acknowledgement of the fact that their HO phone was not answered or out-of-service. I have twice since asked for a written apology and given a deadline date of Monday 2nd Oct. To date (14 days after the event) I have received no response in writing. ================================================================= email sent Weds 20th Sept/2017. Attention : Dischem On Monday 18th September 2017 between the hours of 15.11 > 15.28 I had the most unpleasant experience at Dischem / Woodmead Retail Park. When finished with my purchases and whilst waiting in the queue for a teller, I noticed a bin at that spot which held “Face Wipes” (a product I use continuously) and the label on this bin was JS DE FACEWIPES 25’s FFREE R44.95 I was not sure what this actually meant and what the assumed special offer was, but took a packet and asked the teller when I got to her - Teller number 3. She scanned the product which showed up as R44.95 which I said to her seemed to be the “normal” price, so what did the 25’s FFREE mean? She left the till and went to check thee bin but returned saying she did not understand either. We called a supervisor (female) who also did not know, and who called the cosmetics manager (female) who also did not understand the offer. We were all joking at this stage, as were tellers 1 + 2 + 4 + 5 + 6. It was then agreed to call the store manager. Along came Werner Van Rensburg. He did not understand either but stated the price was R44.95 and asked what the problem was. I explained that was close to the usual price, but what did the “25’s ffree” mean. There was a suggestion that there may be 50 in the packet, which was not so – the normal packet is always 25. I then stated that the Notice was confusing, to which he rep**** it was a “HANDWRITTEN NOTICE”. (???) I said that it looked like there was a special offer and that the advert was thus confusing, to which he stated that he “COULD PLACE WHATEVER HE LIKES ON THE NOTICE”. I rep**** that it was about the normal price. He asked me why I thought it was a special, and my response was that it was at the end of the waiting queue and in the bin, to which he rep**** that he “COULD PLACE HIS BINS ANYWHERE HE LIKED”. I was astounded and commented that he did not need to have such a bad attitude – to which he rep**** “I’LL HAVE WHATEVER ATTITUDE I LIKE”. By now I was getting annoyed and stated “I am a customer and you need to treat me with respect”. He rep**** by stating “YOU HAVE AN ATTITUDE SO I CAN HAVE ONE IF I LIKE”. My parting comment was “Young man, you have not heard the end of this encounter”.
All the tellers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 were listening with great interest, as well as certain customers who were at those tills. Please note that at no time did I raise my voice or shout, and anyone who knows me (or your security cameras) can attest to this fact. Teller number 3 then apologized on the behalf of Dischem, and asked me to forgive me, maybe he’s having a bad day. My response was that his bad day had not even started. She again asked me to forgive him as a Christian, as Dischem was not like this. What a great employee you have in her !! According to my till slip she is GUDANI MUNYAI.
I subsequently got H/O phone number and the manager’s full name from the Woodmead Info desk, before departing the store. Upon my arrival home I phoned *** more than SEVEN times 15.52 + 15.53 + 15.54 + 15.55 + 15.55 (2min/18secs) + 15.59 + 15.59 (2min/02secs) only to be cut-off each time …… even the twice that the operator told me she would put me through, and I waited for 2 minutes for the extension to be answered, which it never was. I made two calls from my landline which times are not listed above.
How do I remember all of this? I wrote it down immediately in my car, and have proof of calls made from my mobile. What do I want out of all of this? I want a written apology from Dischem Management. I want a written apology from Werner Van Rensburg – if this will not be given, I want written confirmation from Dischem H/O that disciplinary action will be taken against Van Rensburg, and I want proof of when same will happen. If necessary I am physically available as a complainant in this regard. Wendy Robertson. =========================================
