MICRO-AGGRESSION DISCHEM RICHARDS BAY PHARM
Dischem Richards Bay, Chronic Medication called UNSOLICITED to use their chronic collection service. I was a bit skeptical but agreed when they advised it would a simple collection no time in queue. I enter Dischem at 11.55 on Saturday and exit about 12:18. This is how long I had to wait behind a customer who had an issue with script which is PERFECTLY UNDERSTANDABLE.
The customer turned to be multiple times to apologise for the delay and went even so far as to say he wishes he could ring the service bell for me. Now if the customer could recognise my 20 min wait, why could your staff member not see this and apologise despite me making eye contact with his MULTIPLE times he ignored me. This type of social behaviour can only be interpreted as a MICRO-AGGRESSION. He knew he was in a position of power and he knew he could make me wait. This smacks of the service public health users often complain of. The abuse of power and condescension is unacceptable.
Being a medical doctor on call the same day, I was becoming concerned the service was over-sold by the call centre agent who convinced me to use this service as a TACTIC to ensure I use DISCHEM.
I then after a 15 min or so stepped up politely to ask if someone could be called to assist me, acknowledging there was a problem with the script. I would invite Dischem Management to look at the camera and review your Pharmacists attitude, facial expression and tone.
His face contorted into condescension : Look I am busy, with this patient you will have to wait. No apology. I asked if he could call someone else, he was responded everyone is busy.
As a retail person, are you telling me he as ZERO problem solving skills. His demeanour was below par for a health care professional as all he could have said, even before I approached him was : Mam I apologise for the delay, will be with you in 2 min or something. This burden he left to his customer to keep apologising to me. Maybe he could take a page from his customers book.
Be that as it may, I will not actively be using DISCHEM, neither will my own patients, as I cannot see how I can send an elderly person or anyone with a chronic illness to be treated as badly as I was
