Harassment at Dischem (Westgate branch)
Good day
I went with my elderly mom to Dischem in Westgate on the 30th April 2019. I stood in the queue to pay while she went outside the store to wait for me. 2 men from Dischem went to her and asked who she is waiting for and proceeded to try and get information from her. When I finally exited, the 1 man forced us back into the store claiming we had ****** from the Dischem. I got upset and showed him the receipt and told him the buzzer didn’t go off when I put the items I bought through it.
We asked for the branch manager. He arrived and walked to his office with the 2 unidentified cronies. I asked the security guards at the door what it is we had done wrong. They shook their heads and said they really don’t know.
The branch manager returned with the 2 men. They wanted us to go with them to the office. My mom was ill and sat on a chair given to her by the lady at customer service, who also had no idea why we were being harassed without a valid reason. I took photos of the 2 unidentifiable men and refused to go into the office with them.
Since they made a scene they could state what it was that we had done wrong for them to publicly humiliate us. The branch manager didn’t have a reason and so I told my mom we are leaving.
I told the branch manager that if we had done wrong then he must call the police but we are leaving. And we left.
Here are my concerns, why didn’t the real security of Dischem put these 2 unidentifiable men out of the store? What was the intention of the branch manager and the 2 unidentifiable men?
Since I refuse to be a victim of such behavior, I am taking this further. I have their photos and need to get to the bottom of this. I’d like to encourage all the people who have had a negative experience at any Dischem to take it further. It doesn’t help avoiding returning to the store. I’m going to take this further so that my mom and I can be at peace to shop at any Dischem including the one in Westgate without any issues. They are running a business after all and they must be taught how to appreciate and value their customers.
