This evening at Dischem mall of the south I was accused of theft. The security actually followed me out of the store all the way to the ATM where I was headed to withdraw to for my parking ticket. He didn’t even bother to stop the ***** “me” instead my intuition said look over your shoulder as I could sense that someone was walking behind me. He says ‘’did you pay for all your cosmetics” I answered yes and handed him the slip as it was at the top of my bag. He then said ‘’I need you to come with me so we can make sure’’.

The embarrassment of having to walk back into the mall with all the stores closing and people looking at me walking beside a security guard holding my slip. Dischem mall of the south is at the end of the first floor, and we are coming from the front entrance of the mall. As I walked into the store, the stares from staff that were being searched on their way out, and me a customer that was there 5 - 10 minutes before walking back in, I could die. I live in Liefde en Vrede, that is the closest mall for me where I do all my groceries and I’m there 2 – 3 times a week, some of those people know me.

The security detained me in some passage for over 20 minutes, by the way this is after our walk of shame back into the store. I took the 5 items I had bought out of the bag, not accuser but me, and he didn’t even look at them instead he went into an office for 10 minutes, come back spoke on his radio and grinned ‘’im sorry’’. I asked what he was sorry about and says it was mistake, while laughing. A mistake. I asked to see the manager. He also took his sweet time to come, then has the nerve to ask me what the issue is. I’m like really…. Your security guard just walked out of the shop to catch a ***** and his obviously now been told that it’s not true and then has the audacity to ask me what the issue is. He kept apologising while trying to usher me out and brush the whole thing off. Then says we all make mistakes! That’s not what I wanted to hear. What did they see on their cameras that constituted theft or brought suspicion? These people let me stand a queue, pay and walk out, then chase me. And not outside the door of the store but outside the mall.

The above mentioned is not even what upsets me, I picked my 3-year-old son 45minutes late from creche, I found him and the teacher sitting and waiting for me at 18:45, what kind of a parent does that make me on a Friday night. This is after an attempt of quickly getting essentials and it turned to me be detained and falsely accused. I could have easily got to the school at 18:00. Then the cherry on top, because I was late and I told both the manger and guard that I must pick my child up, while running out of the mall after standing in line to pay for my ticket, I dropped the nail polish and box of pills I BOUGHT in the parking lot. I was humiliated and I’m disheartened by Dischem mall of the south. I am literally shaking while I type this.
