EXPIRED MEDICATION TO TREAT AN INFECTION

I'm deeply disappointed in the services rendered by dischem as a nationwide pharmaceutical outlet. I have purchased prescribed medication for my son dated 02-01-25. To my surprise, the medication has expired. This happens after giving him the medication twice already, that's when I discovered that medication has expired having looked into the expiry date. My shock was this medication was prescribed for a toddler whom already suffered stomach bug 3 days after consuming first bach of prescribed meds dated 28th December 2024 from the same outlet. At the time I didn't get a chance to see whether the antibiotics have expired has it never crossed my mind that a pharmacy as big as dischem would dispense expired medication. Having discovered that the dispensed meds dated 02-01-25 (gastrotan kids 250mg - 516955) was expired, on the 3rd of January 2025 I contacted them, simply to request exchange not even a refund as I desperately needed the medication and I was promised by Ester that the medication would be delivered to me before 17pm as I was @ work and couldn't go to the store. In my trust I thought they understood the emergency at hand as medication was prescribed to treat stomach bug for 3 days and my son only drank twice the expired version that now I'm questioning given the current scenario that he started vomiting on the same night again. This gets me to think whether the expired medication he drank didn't worsen his condition. I waited until the last hour for the exchange, to my surprise when I called back I spoke to a different lady who came with all sorts of emotions alleging that I'm being rude, I kept on explaining that I'm not in this regard as we are talking about a toddler who drank expired meds and currently being treated for stomach bug issues. She further explained that if it cannot be delivered today since I have to live work, it would be Monday. I asked how would that help me as currently his still got diarrhea that hasn't been treated according to how his prescribed, which lives me no choice than to go purchase the medication at a different pharmacy cash based as the medical aid would not pay for that in less than 24 hours of prescription. Basically I payed twice for medication l, the expired version and the none expired at a different store. Is it fair, NO. The dispenser acted in complete disregard of the emergency at hand, whether or not my son's condition could worsen they didn't care. It is absolutely appalling for such an incident of negligence to occur given that the patient is a toddler who was given poison over the current medical issue. Ethically, they did not show any remorse nor accountability that today as I'm writing he still has diarrhea as a result of not following treatment as prescribed which could have been avoided had the dispenser checked expiration before sealing the package.
