Dischem staff very unhelpful

Earlier today my wife and I tried to purchase a Driftaway mattress topper for a queen size bed from Dischem Newmarket. There was only one in stock and it was shop soiled. We insisted on getting it at a reduced price, but the merchandiser (name of badge of his shirt) refused point blankly. When asked to see a manager, he told us he will ask the manager and came back saying that the manager refuses a sale at a lower price and will return the product to the suppliers. I consider this extremely rude for a manager not coming out to see potential clients, or the merchandiser had made up his mind that there will be no discount. In his shoes, I would rather have a sale at a reduced profit than have no sale at all. Clearly not all staff at Dischem understand this.
