Dischem George

This is a copy of an email that i sent to Dischem on 8 Nov, no reply as yet....

Good day

On 7 November 2018 i visited the Dischem store in Garden Route mall. I was assisted by a lady in the self medication section where i bought a mild tranquiliser.

I reside in Cape Town, in George at the moment to arrange and attend my mother's funeral.

My 2 year old son was in the shop with me, being attended to by my sister. They were standing at the back of the line, in the passage.

Just a brief history of my son, in 2017 he was severely ill with a viral and bacterial pneumonia. Resuscitaded, ventilated and it was traumatic for me and my family. The paediatrician informed us that he had suffered hypoxic damage to his brain. As a result hes development is slow for his age. He is currently receiving Physio therapy, Occupational therapy and due to start Speech therapy. As he is non verbal at the moment he communicates with us by msking specific sounds, that we have learnt to recognise. During our time in Dischem yesterday he was making these sounds, as he was excited to be in such a big store.

A gentleman, blonde with glasses, whom i assumed to be a Pharmacist made a remark about the "noise" that my son was making, an altercation followed between the two of us when he said " kan julle nie julle kinders stilmaak nie".

Now, i will not stand for this type of treatment. I have to stand up for my son, as he is not able to do so himself. The gentleman was rude, and totally out of line. You would expect more from a professional, and i would think even more so from a pharmacist. I do recognise the fact that he is not aware of my son's stituation. But, i am sure that children frequently visit the shop with a parent, so crying children is a regular occurence.

This has not been the only bad experience i have encountered in the specific store this week. I will not go in detail at this moment.

Although i did not get the gentleman's name, i can make every effort to do so.

And i trust that this matter will be dealth with.
