Dis-Chem Assistant Manager Ill Behavior

I bought the Medela electric breast pump at the Dis-Chem store in Canal Walk, due to load shedding i was forced to operate the pump with batteries, only to discover that when inserting the batteries the pump does not connect and thus unable to work. I immediately returned the product in hope that i would be given another pump as the one i bought was defective. The Assistant Manager (Darren) was the most inconsiderate, ill mannered and uncompassionate person i ever met. He refused to return the item and quoted "policy" and how we need to follow a process before returning the item. He had an attitude towards myself and my husband and threw the till slip on the counter and walked away, informing the cashier "to just refund them". While i understand and respect policy and procedure, the bottom line is that I bought the item from Dis-Chem, and not directly from Medela, surely Dish-Chem should manage their suppliers, notwithstanding, there is no fine print on the Medela package nor from Dis-Chem explaining the return policy for this product.
