Conflict with Consumer Protection Act?

I purchased a pair of Gear Mens Slippers at Dischem Garden Route Mall on 17 May 2017. By 17 June, a split had appeared between the sole and upper. We forgot to take the faulty product to George on our next shopping trip but attempted to return them on Friday 14 July. By this time, both slippers had split and the inner lining had been compressed to such an extent that the slippers had evolved from a size 7/8 to a much larger nine or ten and are thus now a loose fit and unsafe to wear.

When we attempted to exchange or return them, with the original receipt, we were advised that "there is no guarantee on slippers". This was confirmed by a supervisor from that aisle. The receipt states that "Medicine and goods of a personal nature may not be returned". Whilst it is comforting to know that they probably do not recycle soiled underwear or used syringres, refusing to accept goods of a faulty nature or unsuitable for use after less than two months is surely unreasonable and may even be in conflict with the purchaser's concsumer rights. Another employee at the branch stated that there had been "hundreds of slippers" that they could not take back due to this policy.

Having had no luck at branch level, I would be grateful if Dischem management could comment on this policy and advise how it aligns with the CPA.

Yours faithfully.
