Check the Beauty Bed to prevent a #DISCHEMFALL
<p>During September 2015 I booked a Beauty Salon appointment 2 days prior to leaving for a short holiday in Durban. The consultant instructed me to lie on the salon bed for the first part of my treatment. Following her instructions , I sat up when she had finished and swung my legs over the side of the bed to dismount. The shock, horror and pain I felt as the bed suddenly gave way, propelling me to the floor, where I landed on my left side will haunt me forever. Dazed and in excruciating pain I managed to phone my doctor (once my cellphone had been picked up and put back together by the kind ClearWater staff that had by now gathered. Fortunately a visit to the doctor and X Rays showed no broken bones but a sprained, bruised and tissue damaged left arm, wrist and ankle. The manager assured me he would send a report to their Head Office for a claim of compensation. My much anticipated holiday was ruined as I hobbled onto planes and spent my week in Durban gazing, longingly at the sea and beach mostly from my bed. After not receiving any communication from Dis-Chem I contacted them in January 2016. While their Operations Director, Brian Epstein was most sympathetic and requested me to list my expenses and expectations so that he could assess whether a claim could be settled internally or sent to their insurers - the final outcome has been less than pleasant. One reply strangely stated " If anyone, not just yourself, has to sit at the foot rest end of this bed will and should it with stand up, or is it expected and foreseeable that you could fall if you sat there. (do people sit on the foot end of a beauty bed when dismounting from the side??? ....... and the final.... '' could not have foreseen that the bed would collapse as the bed did not require servicing or inspection" ...as I presume they are intimating that the customer should be able to foresee the collapse of the bed I believe it only fair and my moral duty to warn all future users of a Dis-Chem Beauty Salon bed to take a technician of sort with them to ensure the bed is safe and stable before they use it.</p>
