Bad customer service at Canal Walk
I was at the Canal Walk Dischem branch yesterday afternoon, and I did some shopping for my toddler as I do in this particular store every month because they normally have great savings for baby things and I gain points for my purchases each month. However yesterday I had a different experience, at Canal Walk of all places where you expect the level customer service to be great. So the nice cashier who helped me unfortunately didn't know that I wouldn't get points on my card if I didn't have the physical card to swipe on the machine (this is because I've been using my online dischem card as I've lost the physical card. Also every time I'm in store to get a physical card, they never have any stock. As was the case at Canal Walk also). So yesterday I spent R1800. 00 in purchases and I enquire how I'm going to now get points for this big purchase. The other cashier informs me that I have to go to the customer service desk and give them my online Dischem card number, and they will put the points on my dischem card, no problem. So I go over to the customer service desk, greet the black haired girl with glasses who's sitting there and barely paying attention to me or her surroundings except her phone, and finally when she deems to notice me her answer is "Yes?". Wow, awesome customer service here. So I steel myself, and I continue to be polite and tell her that the cashiers have sent me to this desk to get my points put on my Dischem card for my purchase. She looks towards the direction of the cashiers and says "but why didn't they just put/enter the card number on the system". I tell her that it was explained to me that I wouldn't receive any points that way and that the only way to guarantee that I do get my points at all was to go to the customer service desk and produce my card and receipt. She holds her hand out for my receipt, I give it to her, she writes down a number, then asks for my online card number, which I show her on my phone, then she proceeds to write down that number too and puts the piece of paper to the side and goes back to her phone. She then tells me as she sees I'm awaiting a reply that "You don't have to wait, hey". Which I reply seeking verification that I am to receive my points, and she just says "yes". To say that I felt insignificant and unvalued as a customer that just spent R1800 in your store, is nothing compared to how angry I woke up feeling today about this encounter. Even now I am not sure of I will get all my points and that's a huge deciding factor for me when I make purchases - that I'm getting something back at the end. Now dischem has left a bad taste in my mouth.
