Summer Mobile and MTN

Summer Mobile with contact number (021) ********** and website http://www.summermobile.co.za is a third party contractor that MTN uses to contact customers whose contracts have gone past the 24 months.

Summer Mobile then claims to operate as MTN and does the upgrade over the phone. I upgraded in this way and the wrong phone was delivered to me two weeks later.

I then went into the nearest MTN branch to return the upgrade. I then found that only certain MTN branches deals with Summer Mobile and that the local one in Stellenbosch does not deal with them. I was referred to the MTN branch in Somerset Mall.

This MTN branch (shop number 7) in Somerset Mall' services are extremely poor. My wife dropped the phone at this store to be send back to the MTN warehouse. No cancelations can be made by MTN until the warehouse in JHB receives the parcel. I went here for 4 consecutive Saturdays to follow up if the phone was received in JHB, which was confirmed on the last visit by Timothy, one of the workers at the store. The reason I went here for 4 consecutive Saturdays was due to the telephone number that MTN (shop number 7's ) gave me the first time round (083) ********** only rings and does not get picked up. I stood in a row for approximately 90 to 100mins each time. Here are multiple staff in the back room unwilling to man the vacant stations. I wrote an complaint to the regional manager and got no response. I then canceled my upgrade done for which I've received the wrong phone at the same store.

After Timothy confirmed that the parcel was returned, I have seen the matter as closed, until my MTN debit order in March showed that they have not canceled the upgrade. I then went into the MTN store in Eikestad Mall, Stellenbosch and logged a complaint. He told me that the request was send through to MTN and that I will receive a SMS once this has been resolved. This has now been 1 month and I have yet to receive such SMS.

Today, on Freedom day, I visited the MTN customer care branch in Pretoria, Menlyn Mall and was helped very swiftly. The lady could not correct my debit order because they will need to contact Summer Mobile during weekdays only. She then confirmed that the last activity she can see on my profile was the 10th of February when the wrong phone was delivered to me. Thus no one logged anything on my profile during this whole episode.

I want to warn all future customers wanting to do business with Summer Mobile and shop number 7 at Somerset Mall MTN that the service is extremely poor and you will probably loose money.

Next week I will cancel my contract with MTN and move over to Vodacom.
