Misrepresenting contracts as MTN and deceiving

In February I got a call from a certain Shakira offering me an upgrade. She offered me a data and minutes deal only that I thought would be convenient in this time where I have faced massive loss of income due to covid and am being supported by my family to stay afloat. I asked her several times to please confirm what this would cost me. And several times I was told that it is R399 per month plus a hundred odd rand once off admin fee. I think I also said to her I was not aware that I’m due for an upgrade and she said it’s a little earlier but never ever mentioned the fact that I would be charged for the rest of my existing contract….and I was unaware of the bomb that was about to hit me until the debit order bounced.

I have contacted MTN many times regarding this. Without getting any proper answer. I am trapped in no man’s land , between you (Summer Mobile) and MTN ( which I only found out is not the same company since this circus hit me. I find this problematic… MTN is outsourcing contracts to another company- sharing my information with someone I have not given consent too.) Wonder what the consumer Board says about this? What I find really astounding is that your team is sitting there with my info and contract details in front of them, and does not have the decency to be honest and transparent about how this is all going to play out. I actually have no idea about my contracts details, apart from knowing what money I should have available on the 15th of every month… Why do you contact people for a new contract when you very well know they are not due for an upgrade and knowingly deceive them about how much financial pressure you are adding to their story? You are taking advantage of grey areas where you hope that the client is not 100% clear about the exact starting date etc… I would most certainly not have opted for an early upgrade. This is a ********* business practice. Not to mention the fact that I get a call from a company that introduces themselves as MTN Summer Mobile, and obviously the client will think this is MTN. If I knew it’s not the same company I would not have continued the conversation. I find it devious and *********. At the end of the day it’s totally sad that you exploit hundreds and thousands of little people like this daily. Do you think this is somehow a good business ethic? Because it’s not. It sucks. And you are certainly not going to be gaining fans in this manner. And I want Shakira to know that she has knowingly turned my life into hell. I’m being threatened with blacklisting and have lost the use of my phone. It has consumed many hours over the last month writing emails, making calls and sitting in an MTN shop – and absolutely nobody has been able to assist me. I have been an MTN client for 20 years and have never ever missed a payment, because sorry to say, previously nobody **** to me. And I had my money ready for my monthly debit order. I have now become the dishonoring client. While actually you are dishonoring good clients by not being truthful. I am unable to pay this money and would like to know how this matter can be resolved. I am not able to pay two contracts simultaneously. I’d rather go back onto my old contract.
