Department of Education Poor treatment

ill treatment from the staff at the Gauteng Department of Education. I’m a parent who app**** online for my daughter at these schools: Alberton High School , Bracken High & Boksburg High as my daughter is currently in Grade 7 at Alberton Primary School. Obviously hoping she will meet the criteria. I used my work address in Mulberton hoping she qualifies & criteria 3 is she’s based already in Alberton. All the applications have been in process from July 2020 but no response from the schools. Documents were submitted both online & by hand to the schools.

I was referred to Mr Beukes for the Alberton schools & Sebastian Smith for Boksburg schools. They all referred me to ‘OTHER’ poor performing schools with a bad reputation as a last resort because all schools are full. But during my constant queuing at the district people were assisted with minimal criteria meets.

I then emailed the Principal at Boksburg High, who responded by saying I should ask the district to process my child’s application for the school. When I met with Sebastian, he told me Boksburg High was off the system & he cannot process the application for me.

Meanwhile, Mr Beukes promised his former student to place her daughter in one of the schools the parent had app**** to but when it was my turn he told me to go to Parklands ( another bad reputable school. The queuing system is also horrific, as a Registered Nurse for liner in would go queue at the district & people ( MetroPolice ) would be walking in front of us with personalized appointments to see Sebastian. Some of us weren’t born yesterday. We see what is going on & are not fools.

On the Friday of the 11th December 2020 I arrived at Meyersdal offices at 08:00 and was only attended to at 13:30 by Sebastian who didn’t want to hear what I had to say but rudely referred me to other schools. He was rushing for lunch. What have our people done to deserve such disgusting treatment? When all you want is just acceptance of your child into the school you app**** at or at least into an equivalent school with a good reputation & good pass rate.

I believe that as a parent it is my right to want the best school for my child. I app**** on time and met two criteria requirements for my child to gain acceptance into the schools but ‘the schools are full.’ So they say ??? When you get to the school they send you to the district and seem to have no problem accepting your child.

Who is fooling who? Why are we being **** to? Why is the system failing parents. Why are there racial preferences made all in the name of ‘ the child must be within the radius of the school’

Whereas, a particular child from Katlehong was accepted in Sunward Park. And I who’s child lives in Vosloorus was not even accepted to a school that is 14km within the radius.???

There is a lot of dishonesty in our education district. All the regulations in place are not being adhered to. A lot of *******ion is happening in the district but all is falling on deaf ears & it’s shoved underneath the carpet. Because that is what the world has become. Permitting *******ion to being the norm.
