Concern regarding Unpaid Invigilation Services

I am writing to formally express my deep concern regarding the lack of payment for services rendered as an invigilator under the Department of Education.

In November 2024, I was appointed to serve as an invigilator at a local high school in Soweto. At the time of engagement, we were informed that compensation would be processed and reflected by January 2025. However, as of today—over eight months later—I have yet to receive any payment for the work I performed.

This prolonged delay is both disappointing and disheartening. It reflects poorly on the department’s commitment to honoring its obligations and respecting the contributions of temporary staff. I undertook this role in good faith, with the understanding that it was a paid position. To have worked without compensation is unacceptable and feels akin to involuntary volunteerism, which I did not agree to.

I respectfully urge the Department of Education to address this matter with the urgency it deserves and ensure that payment is made without further delay. I trust that the department is capable of better service delivery and accountability.
