Shameful business practices

This is a joint review on Defy and Barnards Repairs My dishwasher from Takealot has been faulty from day 1. Takealot don't care about problems once sold - go to Defy. Wish I'd known that! I registered the warranty with Defy and called to explain my problem - dishes were not drying Barnards repairs was the allocated agent to come and do the repair 1st technician - came with no parts. Next day replaced the motor - even I know a motor won't dry dishes! Called Barnards again, next agent comes to see the problem. Assures me it is the PC board and guess what - 7 to 14 days to repair that! WHAT?! By now, we are 2 weeks into this backwards and forwards process. Barnards decide to then fetch the machine on Friday with promises to return it by Tuesday Just ******* stories about testing and more testing and no feedback unless I stalk them Now, Wednesday, they have said they can't fix it. They need to write reports to Defy to support a 6 week old machine is broken. I've again asked for it to be returned - promises made it will be returned today. And it is now 5pm and it is not here So another wasted day of no dishwasher, no repair, no refund DEFY you should be ashamed sub contracting to a business this shoddy And you should be following up with your clients to see the status of their repairs. A brand new machine purchased on 23 August has never work.3 weeks of this nonsense with the contracted party. And who knows how many more days to go Shameful business practice from you both

Defy, to update since I complained on HelloPeter

1. I have called your service desk - you website alludes to priority care. Well, I am not seeing that. I am told I will have to wait for the technical team to revert. You would think this would be a priority for a big brand like you
2. Yesterday, Barnards advised the dishwasher could not be repaired. And that they would notify you of such. Today, my dishwasher was returned to my house, apparently fixed. I noted that it had not been tested when the technician asked me to sign off the job card. Well, the technician talks nonsense. It is not fixed. it is still broken and not drying dishes.

Your website and the Consumer Protection Act is clear -
  • For the first 6 months after purchase, the customer shall have the right to request a repair, refund or replacement as set out in the Consumer Protection Act subject to any defects being material. If the defect could be easily repaired or remedied, then Defy may elect to repair the unit.

This is an official request for either a refund or an exchange. I do not wish to have any more running around and I am well within my rights.

I do hope someone will phone to discuss - that has still not happened.

A further update, I have spoken to the owner of Barnards
Who has advised this is how the dishwasher is meant to operate
And that dishes only dry when the door is left open
IF that is the case - explain why his technicians had several trips, made several repairs and KNEW the issue was dishes not drying

It is not good enough to pass this to Barnards - the responsibility now rests with you to refund me or replace the dishwasher:

CPA:

"The Consumer Protection Act (CPA) allows for refunds in several situations, including within six months for defective or unsafe goods, or under specific circumstances like direct marketing or when goods were not inspected before delivery. Consumers can return goods and request a full refund for products that are unsafe, defective, or unsuitable for the purpose they were bought. In cases of direct marketing, there is a five-day "cooling-off" period for returns without penalty.

Check the CPA's conditions: Determine if your situation falls under one of the protected circumstances (defective goods, direct marketing, goods not seen before delivery). Contact the supplier: Notify the supplier of your intent to return the goods, following the timelines provided by the CPA (e.g., five days for direct marketing, six months for defective goods). Follow the return process: Return the goods, noting that for direct marketing returns, the consumer is usually responsible for the return cost. Receive your refund: The supplier must provide a refund within the timeframes specified by the act "

Good provided by takealot, were not inspected and they are defective - who ever heard of a dishwasher that does not dry dishes!

If I do not hear from Defy soonest, I will log complaints with Consumer Goods and Services Ombud And the National Consumer Commission (NCC).

Good day Katherine,
We understand and acknowledge your rights as a consumer but your unit is not unsafe or defective.
The PCB was not replaced, as the unit was uplifted for testing and no fault was found.

As advised, the appliance is operating within its normal specifications. This model does require the user to manually open the door at the end of the cycle to assist with the final drying of dishes.

If you remain dissatisfied with the outcome, you are welcome to escalate the matter to Ombudsman.
