Dishwasher drain pump not switching off

I could not find the email address of defy so I am hoping it reaches the right person. I've got a Defy eco a+ (DDW176) dish washer which I purchased in May 2017. Last night the machine started with giving problems. I drain pump keeps on running even though the knob is turned to the off position. It only stops if I open the door or unplug the unit. It does not want to start a washing cycle due to this issue. I've always been a huge fan of DEFY this is the first time I am having issues with any of their appliances. What can the problem be? and why only start a month after the warranty ended?
